STOP 0x00000074 BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO Error Message in Windows XP

Normally caused by having one or more RAM sticks that are either damaged or not placed into the computer correctly. turn off the computer and double check the RAM seating. If the memory is seated correctly, it could be that you have a bad DIMM. Try swapping out the DIMMs one at a time.

  1. Had this problem after re-installing Win XP Pro.
Tried re-setting the Bios settings but nothing worked – until I removed one stick of 128meg of Ram. Likely it is faulty since the old HP is running fine.

    Check the RAM!

  2. in my Case it is not the RAM. After shuting down an old NT4-Server and backing up under XP the filesystem has changed from NTFS 2.x to 3.1 After that this BSoD appears. right before that “the filesystem on drive ??\V:: cannot be recognized.
